David Storey-Mills explains his role as an East Gippsland Shire Youth Ambassador
At last week’s meeting we were most fortunate to be addressed by a most impressive young member of our community, David Storey-Mills who is an East Gippsland Shire Youth Ambassador. David explained the role of Youth Ambassadors within our community and how he become to be involved and the fulfilment he experiences through empowering his peers to be engaged in our community.

East Gippsland Shire Council Youth Ambassadors is a group of young people aged 12-25 who are passionate about creating positive change in their local community. These young people come from all parts of our Shire and thus strive to offer engagement to all youngsters no matter where they live within the Shire – a challenge to deal with the ‘Tyranny of Distance’.

Becoming a Youth Ambassador provides an opportunity for young people to discuss youth issues, have a meaningful engagement with the established Council and have a say about the future of their community. Youth Ambassadors are instigators of positive change for young people in East Gippsland and their mission is to ensure young people are engaged and feel as valued citizens in the community. Youth Ambassadors participate in training opportunities, community consultations and events as well as develop and implement their own action plan with goals and ambitions they work towards achieving each year.

David’s commitment and desire to serve his peers was inspirational and created considerable discussion among Club members as to how the Club can be engaged with these young leaders and support their work.
